Why Sundays Are Sacred

Not for any religious reason. Simply because a week without one still day of nothing is not a week I want to keep repeating.

Why Sundays Are Sacred

I protect Sundays the way other people protect a bank balance. No errands if I can help it, no catching up, no getting ahead. The day is allowed to be useless, and that is precisely its use.

It is the day I read slowly, cook something that takes hours, and write the things that end up here. The rest of the week earns its keep. Sunday does not have to.

Most things worth writing about happen slowly. Usually on a Sunday.

The world will tell you the day is wasted. Let it. I have never once regretted a slow Sunday, and I have regretted almost every busy one.
