A Sunday Table Worth Slowing Down For
No courses, no timing, no performance. Just a long table, a slow afternoon, and food that does not mind waiting.
The best Sunday lunches I have hosted were the ones I under-planned. One big thing in the oven, a few small things on the side, and hours with no particular shape.
People relax when the food is not precious. They reach across, they go back for more, they stay longer than they meant to.
A good table is not about the cooking. It is about the staying.
By the time the light goes amber and someone finally clears the plates, the afternoon has done its work. That, more than any single dish, is what I am really cooking for.
